Creating Luxury Floral Arrangements for Home Décor

Home décor is an expression of personal style and a reflection of one's taste and personality. Setting aside the usual elements of your interior design—furniture, artwork, textiles and lighting—one of the most elegant and impactful ways to enhance your living space is through the use of flowers and plants.

Luxury floral arrangements not only add vibrance and color to your home, but can also create an ambiance of sophistication and tranquility—or any alternative atmosphere you’re trying to achieve—making it feel more inviting and aesthetically pleasing for you and your guests. Whether you’re seeking to create a stunning centerpiece for your dining table, a welcoming entryway display, or subtle accents throughout your home, our team of designers can help you master the art of floral arranging to turn your living space into a reflection of style and grace.

“I love designing arrangements for a client's home. When taking on a new weekly residential account, I always like to meet the client at their home to get a feel for their style and space. This personalized meeting gives me the opportunity to not only take them through our process and explain how the arrangements can change seasonally, but to get clear on what they like in terms of varietals, scents and colors to create the best possible design for their sanctuary.”

Selecting the Right Flowers

When it comes to creating stunning floral arrangements, the choice of flowers is crucial. Aside from their look and feel it’s perhaps even more important to consider their lifespan. Peonies, for example, are beautiful, however it would be very fortunate if they last more than 5 days! Below are some of the most popular choices we recommend for luxury flowers:

Roses: Known for their classic beauty and timeless appeal, roses are a staple in premium floral arrangements. Opt for large, lush blooms in rich colors like deep reds, pinks, and white for the most dramatic impact.

Orchids: With their exotic appearance and delicate beauty, orchids bring an air of refinement and elegance. They are ideal for minimalist and modern arrangements.

Lilies: Symbolizing purity and grace, lilies are ideal for adding height and structure to your arrangements. Choose varieties like calla lilies for a sleek and stylish look.

Lisianthus: Lisianthus flowers come in a variety of colors, including white, pink, purple, blue, and bi-colored varieties. The petals are soft and delicate, giving the flower a refined and romantic look.

Hydrangeas: These lush, full blooms are excellent for creating volume and texture. Their pastel shades are perfect for a soft, elegant touch. The Dutch Hydrangea is one of our boutique favorites!

Creating a premium floral arrangement involves more than just selecting beautiful flowers—the design and composition play a significant role in achieving a desired look for your space. Most importantly, you never want to use anything that could possibly damage your home or its contents. Here are some tips for designing premium floral arrangements:

Choose a Statement Vase: The vessel holding your flowers can be just as important as the blooms themselves! A statement vase can elevate the entire arrangement and complement your home décor. Where possible, opt for high-quality vases made of crystal, glass, or porcelain.

Focus on Color Harmony: Select flowers in colors that complement your interior color scheme. For a cohesive look, stick to a monochromatic palette or choose complementary colors. Soft, pastel hues create a serene ambiance, while bold colors add drama and excitement.

Ensure Balance and Proportion: Pay attention to the balance and proportion of your arrangement. Combine flowers of different heights, sizes, and textures to create depth and interest. While we believe hearty is always best, ensure that the arrangement is not too crowded and definitely not too sparse.

Add Greenery and Other Complements: Incorporate greenery and filler flowers to enhance the overall look of your arrangement. Eucalyptus and ferns are excellent choices that add texture and volume.

Seasonal Touches: Consider incorporating seasonal flowers and elements to keep your arrangements fresh and relevant. Seasonal blooms not only add variety and uniqueness, but also reflect the changing beauty of nature.

Maintenance and Care

To keep your bouquet of luxury flowers looking fresh and beautiful, proper care and maintenance are essential. Here are some tips to ensure your flowers last longer:

Location: Where you display an arrangement is extremely important to its lifespan. Do you keep your home warm? Cold? Is there a vent or frequently open window nearby that blows air on the arrangement? Do you have pets or children that could potentially tamper with the arrangement? Aside from these considerations, placing the arrangement in a cool area away from direct sunlight is best.

Trim Stems: Every couple of days, trim the stems at a 45-degree angle under running water to allow better water absorption. Use sharp scissors or pruning shears to avoid crushing the stems.

Proper Watering: Replace the water in your vase every two to three days to prevent bacterial growth, which can shorten the life of your flowers. Ensure that the stems are always submerged in water. Some flowers, like roses, drink a lot of water, so keep an eye on the water level.

Use Floral Preservatives: Add floral preservatives to the water to nourish your flowers and extend their lifespan.

General Care: As flowers start to wilt, remove them from the arrangement to prevent the spread of bacteria to the other blooms. Remove any leaves or foliage that will be submerged in water, as they can rot and also cause bacteria to form.
